Biodegradable Plastics (EverCorn TM)
Ever Corn, Inc. is a subsidiary of Japan Corn Starch Co., Ltd. founded to develop biodegradable plastics from corn starch.
Position
Ever Corn Resin is derived from natural polymer that is starch and is called Modified Starch Plastic. Ever Corn Resin is also friendly with Environment of Earth as follows;
Biodegradable plastics derived from corn
Starch itself has not thermoplasticity and is decomposed by heating at 250 260. However, EverCorn Resin (ECR) has thermoplasticity, though it is derived from corn starch. JCS has developed the new modification technology for starch and the new modification technology has given the thermoplasticity to starch. By using this technology, we have expanded the application area of starch to Injection molding, Extruding lamination, Film forming and so on. Also, as the base material of EverCorn Resin is starch, the moldings, laminated paper, film etc. of ECR are decomposed to water and carbon dioxide by the action of micro-organisms in soil or water. However, under the normal condition such as in atmosphere no contact with soil or water containing microorganisms the products of ECR are handled such as the products of conventional plastics, because the properties of ECR does not change under normal conditions. Natural starch has hygroscope it comes from hydroxyl group of starch and under high humidity condition starch or its paste becomes sticky by absorbing water or moisture in air. However, in case of EverCorn Resin, the new modification technology developed by us protects the penetration of water into product and gives waterproof performance to product. Therefore, EverCorn Resin can be called the biodegradable plastics derive from starch.
